The crew gathered at Servo Nichols with
the sun shining and looking forward to a great day. It was great to
see David Robinson along for a ride as I had not caught up with him
for such a long time. The usual banter, tales and laughter was shared
around prior to our 0930 start.
Chas gave a detailed description of the
route that we would take then asked if all knew the way. Poor Kris
said no so we said to her not to worry we will look after you. So it
was off to the Terra Cotta Café in Harden/Murramburrah for the first
coffee break. Our arrival was timed nicely as they were just opening
up the café. Trevor and Chas couldn’t resist the Vanilla Slice (it
was great) while others partook of various delights.
From there it was off to Wallendbeen
then via the Old Gundagai Road to Coolac, a very pleasant piece of
country road. Coolac saw us straight down the highway through
Gundagai to the turn off at Tumblong. Then it was onto Adelong.
Ian helps Peter out with a difficulty |
Lunch was at the Pub with Ian sweet
talking the lady host to deliver personalized service. Mind you Peter
Arday got twice his money’s worth for lunch as you can see from the
enclosed photos. Peter decided that if he ate the lot Suzanne might
think him a glutton.
"You know Pete - this is fine bacon" |
However the attached picture shows Ian
voluntarily come to his aid in devouring the remainder. Actually
Sally it was only the bacon rasher (he he). Richard told us a joke of
how to order food in a Chinese restaurant by either using the Name of
the food or the Number on the menu. Too long to explain here but it
brought the group down with much laughter.
Departing Adelong we went to Tumut then
out along the Wee Jasper Road turning off to Brungle, here we
followed the road alongside the river while manoeuvring between the
sheep and cattle agisting along the roadside. Dumb Arse sheep so
unpredictable and poo everywhere, the cow pats weren’t too wet just
the same. Along this road to nowhere oops I mean Coolac we came
across Mr. Plod, most unusual for this part of the country. Still we
were all behaving as responsible Ulyssians.
At Coolac we hit the highway to Jugiong
for afternoon tea, however they were holding a horse gymkhana of some
description and the place was packed out so with only 130k,s to go we
all said farewell and hit the road home arriving at a good hour in
the afternoon before dusk.
Great ride and great company with lots
of laughs along the way.
