Ride Report Canowindra 4 June 2017

Just four hardy Ulyssians braved a chilly and foggy morning for the ride to Canowindra. According to the Goldwing’s weather station, it was 6° as we headed out of town on the Barton Highway, though this dropped to 5° as we rounded fogbound Yass.

The fog had closed in around Murrumbateman and grew even denser on Lachlan Valley Way but by the time we passed Kangiara we had popped out into brilliant sunshine, which continued for the rest of the day. A coffee and a pie at the Superb Café, where it was a balmy 12°, chased away any chill that still remained in our bones.

From Boorowa our route took us via Frogmore, Wyangala Dam and Woodstock. This is a brilliant road, with a mostly good surface, lots of sweeping corners and beautiful scenery. Throw in a few tight twisty-turnies climbing away from the dam and by the time we got to Canowindra we were feeling pretty happy.

We dined in the historic Garden of Roses café, which started life in the 1920s as a Greek café and still boasts a full-width stained glass window and a pool table. Robyn and her daughter-in-law Sam made us feel very welcome.

From Canowindra is was just a quick jaunt back home with, fortuitously, most of the traffic on the Barton heading in the opposite direction.
