We have dropped Decide & Rides/Self-Guided Rides (SGR) from the branch ride calendar after one of our newest members was the only person to turn up to the SGR to Gundagai on 8 July. This has happened before and it leaves the sole rider — especially if it’s a new member – feeling embarrassed and pissed off. It doesn’t reflect well on the branch.
Decide & Rides were introduced on weekends on which there was no Club Ride or Chomp & Chat just so there was something on every weekend of the year. They later became Self-Guided Rides to a known destination because some members complained about the uncertainty, potential conflict and dissatisfaction involved in deciding on a destination for the Decide & Rides.
The decision to drop the D&Rs/SGRs was taken after extensive and rapid consultation with the branch committee and the ride team. They have never been popular but will be reintroduced on a trial basis in October, when the weather is warmer and people are more likely to turn up.
